Woodend School
Woodend school is a decile 7 full primary school with approximately 370 pupils, it is located in a rural township that increasingly provides housing for families who commute to other areas.
The application by Woodend School for designation as a Safe School is of an extremely high standard and is very well presented. It demonstrates an outstanding commitment to developing and maintaining the safety culture and a safe environment at Woodend School. The appendices that were included were relevant and further illustrated the descriptions under each indicator.
In addition, the whole application provides examples of how the wider network of parents, students, staff and community are all involved in ensuring a physical and emotional safe environment for students at Woodend School. Woodend School is geographically located with the Waimakariri District Council, which was accredited as an Interntional Safe Community in 1999. A close and supportive relationship has been established between Injury Prevention Waimakariri and Woodend School.
We congratulate Woodend on acheiving designation and support its ongoing commitment to SSCIAP, see the attached newsletter for a summary and photos of the desigantion.
Woodend school submitted their application before the revision of Safe Schools and SSCIAP. Thus their application relects criteria of the time and their re-designation application will reflect the SSCIAP criteria.
