Safe Community Award 2010
This year it was our great pleasure to present Michael Mills, Safe Community Coordinator Tauranga Safe City with the National Safe Community Award. This award is in recognition of Mike’s outstanding support for Safe Community best practice at the regional and national levels. This has included raising the profile of how to improve community safety, his encouragement of cooperation and coordination amongst practitioners and other key stakeholders, his encouraging best practice, and his focus on new and innovative interaction with communities. Thank you Mike for your innovation, collaboration, leadership, focus on evidence based practice and awareness of the need to demonstrate a return on investment, however one defines that particular term.
Previous recipients have included:
2007: Geoff Wilson (National) & Channa Perry (Regional)
2008: Tania Peters (National) & Laurie Gabites & Sandra James (Regional)
2009: Mark Maxlow (National) & Ann Esler (Regional)
Safe Communities is both a call for actions and outcomes. All recipients have demonstrated in the words of Martin Luther King that they "choose to believe in what connects them, rather than what separates them". What connects us is improving community safety outcomes whether they are as a result of an unintentional or intentional injury event.
